Digitizing Performance
In “Digitizing Performance”, I demonstrated a cultivation of my digital art skills in a three month project. I took inspiration from the earlier part of my life when “dancer” was the main role I played. Although since retired, I wanted to revive my old life with my new skills. I was curious, how could I enhance dance with digital art? I focused on dance video and how the performance aspect could be ramped up, since watching dance on a screen is much less impactful than watching dance in real life. I executed extensive research and documentation including a research paper and a webpage, worked with dancers across the country, produced visual effects, edited video, and presented my work consistently.
All of these project components hold weight but equally significant is the project management skills I acquired throughout this project. Not only did I work with a group of dancers virtually and maintained multiple work streams, but I also endured a significant direction-change mid-project. In short, I was going to do some sort of moving animation on top of the dance videos but quickly realized this was not viable. So, I pivoted to creating visual effects in Touch Designer (an outstanding tool I was lucky to be introduced to) to layer over the videos. In conclusion, I produced successful output in the face of adversity proving my adaptability and drive.
